Taking pride in your appearance

This week will see the introduction of the MRC Proud cards. You have two key challenges with this card: to try to get as many ‘above and beyond’ signatures as possible. This will show that you are helping other students or staff in our school through being polite, hardworking and respectful. The other challenge is to keep your card completely clean, which will show that you always wear your MRC uniform with pride, that you look smart and are ready to learn. There will be house competitions and rewards for the house that gets the most clean cards, as well as above and beyond signatures. You may well win something for yourself, as well as for your house.

Last week, despite being only four days, was very busy. We had Stewart Foster, an author, in to visit students in the library. We held a fantastic drama performance (well done to Mrs Strachan and all Year 10 drama students). It was a really good to see Year 3-5 students at MRC throughout the week, too. In my blog last week, I mentioned the importance of tolerance and respect – I am pleased that so many of you are choosing to attend our weekly ‘question time’ sessions on Fridays at lunchtime. Please continue to attend and ask as many questions as you like – this is a good opportunity for you. We do respond to your points and the notes are circulated to all tutor groups.

GCSE and GCE exams:

The GCSE and A-level exams start on Monday in the sports hall. I am sure you will all join me in wishing our Year 11 and 13 students good luck for their exams. They have all worked very hard and deserve to do well. Please make sure you if you are in Years 7-10 you are not inside the building before 8.25 – the Year 11 need the canteen space to revise. Also – it is important that areas around the sports hall are as quiet as possible – thank you for supporting our exam year groups.

Litter:

I think this has improved greatly over the last few weeks – thank you for your efforts here. This remains a non-negotiable – you must put all your litter in the bin. This is essential in keeping our school tidy and is something we must all do.

Sports results:

A really good week again last week – well done to all involved and thank you for representing our College with pride:

Athletics

The year 10 boys team came 1st for a second year in a row. A special mention to Jacob Piper who won the 200m by an astonishing distance!

The year 9 girls team came 3rd in a closely fought competition.

We look forward to seeing a number of students picked for the county athletics team after so many amazing individual performances.

Sporting success outside of school

George Roelich-Scott (Year 9) is through to the national finals for Karate. We wish him the best of luck in the competition that will take place later this year.

Have a good week
