Holocaust Memorial Day is this week.

This is an incredibly important day, which we will mark this week with activities in tutor time. It is important that we remember the Holocaust and also consider other atrocities that have taken place since then. We must also acknowledge that similar atrocities re happening in parts of the world now. The focus of our assemblies this week will be Respect.

I received some very positive feedback about our students helping others in the community last week, both from a local primary school headteacher and members of the public. It is fantastic to receive messages from the general public about you ‘doing the right thing’ when outside the College – we must all push ourselves to be the best we can be every day and to help others wherever and whenever we can. You have already demonstrated this through the work you have done to raise money for charities this year.

Our College does a lot within the local community on a weekly basis. This week, we invited primary school students to an orchestra day, which they really enjoyed. My thanks to our students and staff who made this happen. In College, 60% of our Year 13 students have applied to universities and our Year 11 exams were very successful too. We had a visitor from United Learning in science last week; he was incredibly impressed with your work, behaviour and progress in science. Keep it up, please! I also think your uniform looks very good – thank you. Looking smart in College is really important – we must keep our standards high here.

Last week was a little mixed in terms of results from our sports’ teams; netball was much more successful this week than football. Irrespective of results, it is important that we thank students who give their best for the College to represent us.

Year 9 netball team won 4-0 vs Bourne and 5-1 vs St Philip Howard – Lady of the match was Emily Jones

Year 10 netball came 2nd in the area tournament on goal difference – Lady of match was Sophia Francis

Year 10 football team lost 5-1 to Selsey

Year 9 football team lost 8-1 to OSVA

Some important dates / information for this week:

Wednesday is an INSET day. We have invited several Year 11 student to come to College to attend sessions for exam practice.

Thursday evening from 6-7pm we have a revision information evening for Year 11 parents

We will now send an email home every week relating to Hegartymaths tasks for all year groups. There is a competition within United Learning on Hegarty usage – it would be great to win this!

Well done and thank you to all for a really positive first week back!
