An Insider’s Guide to Food at Midhurst Rother College

Food is important to students. We spend almost an hour during the school day at break and lunch eating. So, naturally I wanted to know more about the price and quality of food. Here is what I found out after interviewing staff and students. Full Story...

How Helpful is homework??

Many kids like to sit down, relax and spend time playing games with friends and family, but often times homework just gets in the way.

In Finland, students start school at age 7 and have very little homework. The result – they get good grades, and are generally happier. But on the other hand, in South Korea the students are pushed and stressed by teachers and parents for good grades, they spend more time at school, and have more homework than England and they out-perform England in grades as well.

'Rotarians' listen to readers

It is first period at Midhurst Rother College (MRC) and Robert Morrison, a retired accountant with 35 years of experience, sits in the library listening to a student read about the adventures of Nikki Maxwell, the main character in the popular children’s series Dork Diaries. The story might not be Morrison’s cup of tea, but his commitment to helping young people improve their reading skills is. According to Morrison, ‘Reading is a passport to life. If you don’t progress in your reading skills, you will be left behind’. Morrison is one of a team of volunteers from the Rotary Club of Midhurst and Petworth who participate in the reading aloud programme at MRC aimed at helping students improve their reading skills.  Full story...

Is Cristiano Ronaldo as good as he used to be?
By Thomas

Most of my friends like football and when it comes to football most of us have a favourite team and player. I wanted to find out more about which teams and player students at Midhurst Rother College liked best.

Ironically many teams have united in their name, but football often divides friends based on what teams and players they like. I decided to look into Cristiano Ronaldo and see what people think about him and if he is becoming too old to play.

Cristiano Ronaldo is arguably the best footballer in the world or even ever. He was just named again the Ballon d'Or for the 5th time. But is he still improving or has he already hit his peak? What do the statistic say?

So far this season, Ronaldo has scored 33 goals. He scored 18 of the goals in the Laliga while the others were scored in cup games such as the champions, where he has scored 12. He has also assisted 5 goals.

While this season isn’t over, his results from his 2014/2015 looked different. In that season, he scored a total of 61 goals with 48 of them in Laliga and 10 in the champion’s league. He was also responsible for 22 assists.

Dylan, an MRC student, says “Ronaldo is getting old but is getting worse mentally not physically.” But another Bradley disagrees and says “Ronaldo is still the best footballer in the world, he may be getting worse but he is still a great.’

The only thing that is consistent is that we remain divided in our opinions.
