Biology

Are you fascinated by the lives of living organisms and how your body works? Are you interested in the developments of ‘new’ Biology topics, such as genetic engineering? Are you considering a career in a healthrelated profession, biotechnology or ecology and the environment? Or do you want to use Biology to support other qualifications such as Geography, Sport or other sciences?
Chemistry
Chemistry

Chemistry is everywhere in the world around you. It is in the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the medicines we use and the air we breathe. The A level Chemistry course enables students to see the world in a different way. It is not just about atoms and molecules and things going ‘BOOM!’, but also about debating current global issues, developing problem solving skills and understanding how the scientific community works. The study of Chemistry at A level is an excellent foundation for any science course at university.
English Literature
English Literature

Firstly, if you enjoy reading then you will love the study of English Literature at A level. A level English Literature studies a much broader spectrum of texts than at GCSE and allows students a much greater insight into the development of texts, linking them to context across a wider space of time.
Further Mathematics

Real-world Maths is so much more complicated than the maths you have explored so far, and more so even than A level Maths. Further Mathematicians will understand the concepts and applications that allow maths to model all situations and to form a basis for all scientific study.
Geography
Geography

This course will develop students investigative skills as well as allow them to make complex links between the natural and human environment. The course encourages students to apply and develop geographical enquiry skills, understanding and knowledge acquired at GCSE. The course includes current and up to date resources, data and case study material. Students will develop and enhance numerous transferable skills, include maths and statistics.
History
History

You will develop your ability to evaluate and analyse information, to weigh up evidence and to communicate complex ideas effectively. Students will be able to understand why dictatorships occur and how dictators manage to control their people. The British units investigate the impact of conflict, politics and change during the 15th Century. In addition, you will undertake a personal historical study of 3,000-5,000 words in length. The written, research and analytical skills developed throughout the course can be applied to many professions from media work to public services and the world of business. History is highly valued by universities and can be usefully combined with a number of other subjects such as Maths, Physics, English and Psychology. It is an important foundation study for students who want to pursue Law or Politics at university.

Maths provides the foundations for how all scientific work is approached. Much of what you have learned at GCSE seems disconnected from the world, but A level is where all the pieces begin to fit together and you begin to see the huge number of uses for topics like quadratics, trigonometry, etc.

Mastering a language can broaden your employment horizons - a native English speaker with a foreign language is a valued employee to any company with worldwide operations. Pursuing languages at A Level provides you with the prospect of improving your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills to a very proficient level.
