Transition 2022-2023

At Midhurst Rother College we are aware that the transition from primary into Year 7 at secondary school can be challenging for both parents and students.  Each year we continuing to work hard on making sure that transition to the College is the best as it possibly can be. Our adapted approaches in recent years worked very well with a mixture of virtual and live events. We were very pleased with the feedback received and the positive impact our careful planning had on the confidence of our new students when they joined us in here this September. We know we will achieve a comfortable transition for our 2023 Year 7 students when they join us later.

In the summer term of 2023, colleagues from College will visit your child’s school, to introduce themselves in the classroom thus enabling students and staff to get to know one another and to give everyone a head start. Teachers and the Year 7 Pastoral Team will be able to learn about our new year group as a whole and about individuals.  At the same time students will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with members of staff who will be responsible for both their learning and wellbeing in the coming years.  Our Director for Additional Educational Needs, Ms Rachel Ward, will also visit to meet with those students who may require particular support when they join in September.

On Wednesday 5 July 2023, all our new Year 7 students for September 2023 will spend a day at Midhurst Rother College. This day is designed specifically to prepare them for this next chapter in their lives and students will take part in a range of fun, but informative activities.  In the evening, parents and carers will be invited to attend a presentation.  There will also be the opportunity to meet staff members and speak to specialist colleagues about specific issues. It is our intention that by the end of the day students, parents and carers will feel assured about the start of the next academic year. Of course, many Year 6 pupils from the Rother Valley Locality have spent time on our campus taking part in the September Experience Day; those who live out of the area and have not been to see us before have been invited to join us for a welcome afternoon prior to Transition Day.
