New Intake - 2013-2014

At Midhurst Rother College we are aware that the transition from primary into Year 7 at secondary school can be challenging for both parents and students.  Through close liaison with students, parents and primary schools, we aim to make the transition as straightforward and comfortable as possible. We were very pleased with the feedback received last year and the positive impact our careful planning had on the confidence of our new students when they joined us in September 2013.

Over the course of the year colleagues from the College will visit your child’s school to introduce themselves in the classroom thus enabling students and staff to get to know one another and to give everyone a head start for the new academic year 2013/14. Teachers and the Year 7 Pastoral Team will be able to learn about our new year group as a whole, and about individuals.  At the same time students will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with members of staff who will be responsible for both their learning and well being in the coming years.  Our Director for Additional Educational Needs will also visit to meet with those students who may require particular support when they join in September.

In July 2013, all our new Year 7 students will spend a day at Midhurst Rother College which is designed especially to prepare them for this next chapter in their lives.   Students will meet their Form Tutors and take part in a range of fun, but informative activities.  In the evening, parents/carers are invited to attend a presentation about College overall, the transition period and the arrangements in place for our move into the new building.  There will also be the opportunity to meet staff members and speak to specialist colleagues about specific issues.  The College uniform will be on view – if you would like more information about this in advance please visit the website of our supplier, Stevensons.  Please click here to link. It is our intention that by the end of the day students and parents/carers will feel assured about the start of the next academic year.

Of course many Year 6 pupils from our Rother Valley family of primary schools have spent time on our campus taking part in college experience days; those who live out of the area and have not been to see us before are very welcome to visit us at any point before we break up for summer on Wednesday 24 July 2013.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to arrange this.
We hope you find this information helpful, but should you have any concerns whatsoever about your child joining Midhurst Rother College in September 2013, please do not hesitate to contact us, directly on 01730 812451 or via our website Contact Us facility.
