Specialism

In addition to teaching a broad and balanced curriculum, all academies have a specialism. Our specialism is science and mathematics with the major themes of business and enterprise and ICT running throughout the curriculum.

The specialism is not taught at the expense of other subjects. We want all students to leave the academy with a full range of skills which will enable them to progress on to university or straight to work, whether they want to pursue a career in the arts or sciences.

The science and mathematics specialism means that a particular emphasis is placed on developing, throughout the curriculum, the skills associated with these subjects including numeracy, critical-thinking and analysis. The business and enterprise theme promotes essential skills such as problem-solving, communication and team work. We teach these skills in innovative, exciting and challenging ways such as maths challenges, science fairs and work placements at local businesses.
