VALUES & ETHOS: FREE TO ACHIEVE, BELONG AND CONTRIBUTE
The tradition of learning in Midhurst reaches back over 300 years. In keeping with this proud history, Midhurst Rother College is committed to a journey that will give its students the freedom to achieve their goals whilst allowing them to discover their true potential. The guides on this journey will be teachers who are enthusiastic about their subjects, passionate about teaching and committed to all round personal development. By ensuring that learning flourishes in an atmosphere of excitement, curiosity and happiness the College will help students become confident individuals, citizens and workers prepared for their place in a fast changing and highly technological world.
The creation of a relationship with the University of Chichester and the restoration of the historical link with Winchester College going back to the 17th century are special partnerships that will enrich the College's mission.
The journey to individual success is different for every student, each one following a carefully chosen pathway that will lead to a preferred destination. In a world that demands qualified and skilled workers, the majority will follow an academic course where they will experience a rich curriculum, caring support to secure excellent GCSE and A level results, and a place at a top university or in employment with high quality training. Equally fulfilling and well supported pathways exist leading to vocational opportunities.
Learning and personal success is enhanced by the creation of a strong sense of belonging. The base of this is a College house system – every student and adult at Midhurst Rother College is a member of a house. Belonging will also be expressed through behaviour which shows that every individual respects the College, the wider community and each other. Courtesy and strong relationships are at the core of making the College a happy and dynamic community which not only has a clear understanding of its local role but also its wider global responsibilities.
The College promotes a vibrant life beyond the classroom. Every student is encouraged to contribute to extra-curricular sport, music and drama, and any other activity in which they can thrive as an individual and learn to work with others. The chance to be involved in charity work and community service will be available to all. The ‘MRC Experience’ contains 10 pledges made by the College to all students; the extra-curricular activities these cover are both wide-ranging and exciting.
Each member of Midhurst Rother College is on a personal journey towards success; the respect, achievement and happiness is its guiding principle.
